Last Breath (2025) Christian Review: Deep Faith in Deep Waters

In the frigid North Sea, three saturation divers attempt an underwater repair when a violent storm knocks their support ship off position. Chris Lemons (Finn Cole) is severed from his lifeline and left 300 feet down with minutes of oxygen. Veteran diver Duncan Allcock (Woody Harrelson) and teammate Dave Yuasa (Simu Liu) mount a desperate, against-the-clock rescue as fear, darkness, and dwindling air close in—revealing the power of brotherhood, hope, and resolve.

The ordeal underscores God’s nearness in our deepest crises and celebrates Christ-like, self-giving love as Duncan and Dave risk themselves for a friend (John 15:13). Chris’s survival invites reflection on providence—what seems impossible to man is possible with God—prompting gratitude, prayer, and trust in God’s saving care.

Once the crisis hits, the film locks into gripping, escalating tension. Parkinson blends technical realism with humane restraint, favoring truthful suspense over spectacle. A slower first act (procedures/backstory) delays the adrenaline but sets emotional stakes; after the turn, the momentum rarely lets up.

Woody Harrelson grounds the story as a tough supervisor turning sacrificial protector. Simu Liu balances professionalism with vulnerable resolve. Finn Cole anchors the emotional core—his fear, isolation, and fragile hope feel lived-in. The leads’ chemistry sells a credible brotherhood.
